About
The Swain-Macon program is designed to deliver fresh, locally grown, healthy food boxes every week for 26 weeks to 100 families experiencing food insecurity in Swain and Macon counties. The boxes support the local WNC food system and economy by sourcing most included items from local farmers and food producers.
As the community gains increased access to fresh produce, health outcomes improve, fostering a more resilient population. Furthermore, by sourcing all food included in the boxes from local farmers, the program contributes to environmental sustainability and reduces the carbon footprint associated with food transportation.
The Swain-Macon Produce Rx program serves as a holistic model, addressing health, economic, and environmental dimensions to build a more robust and interconnected community.
