The people that make up the heritage and rich cultural fabric of our communities are who MountainWise is and what it represents. Judy has supported MountainWise staff with ensuring invoices are paid, preparing and submitting expenditure reports and keeping track of grant balances &#8211; oh, and lest we forget, she\u2019s also responsible for making sure that our \u201cwonderful\u201d staff get paid! Keeping more than just balances in check &#8211; Judy joined the MountainWise team back in 2012 as part of the original grant (CTG), \u201cThe grants have changed over the years &#8211; sooo I am still here!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playing a vital role in managing our grant funds, Judy\u2019s extensive knowledge in finance stems from her Accounting Degree from Southwestern Community College and her 30 years service with the Macon County Health Department, from which she retired back in 2009. He received his Bachelor\u2019s of Science degree in Health Science Education with a specialization in Community Health Education from the University of Florida. As the Regional Coordinator for the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP), he leads the implementation of the NC MDPP across the eight westernmost counties of the state.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"430\" data-end=\"751\">Agustin earned his Bachelor of Science in Integrated Health Sciences with a concentration in Health Management from Western Carolina University. She used to visit her grandparents&#8217; Flat Rock family farm every summer as a child. Now,\u00a0the move here has\u00a0felt like finally coming home. A decade ago, she discovered her own love of farming and she has worked as a farm labourer or farm manager nearly every season since. Dakotah\u00a0earned a BS in Food, Nutrition, and Health at the University of British Columbia in 2019. She\u00a0is currently back in school, studying for a Masters of Public Health from UNC. Dakotah is interested in\u00a0the myriad ways human health and agriculture are connected. Someday, she hopes to have her own farm business that aims to\u00a0improve food sovereignty and health equity in WNC.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Dakotah\u00a0helps facilitate\u00a0MountainWise&#8217;s\u00a0<wbr \/>Produce Rx Program which provides free weekly boxes of healthy, local food to folks&#8217; doorsteps in Macon and Swain as well as monthly gatherings with cooking demonstrations, family activities, and other resources. After earning a Masters in Public Health from Georgia State University, Sarah worked for OurVoice and Western NC AIDS Project as a health educator responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of different HIV and violence prevention strategies. Now at MountainWise, Sarah wants to keep our mountain communities healthy by supporting the existing efforts of people that have been taking care of each other, growing their own food, and working hard for centuries.<\/p><h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<\/h3><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><h3>William Pertet, MHSc, RD<\/h3><h4>Regional Health Systems Coordinator<\/h4><p><img class=\"size-medium wp-image-1780 alignright\" style=\"height: 300px; width: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/mountainwise.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/william-pertet.jpg\" alt=\"william-pertet\" \/>Originally from Ngong Hills, Kenya, William obtained his Associate of Science from Young Harris College and obtained his Bachelor's degree from Jacksonville State University with a concentration in Nutrition. After earning his Master\u2019s of Health Science in Nutrition at Western Carolina University, William worked as a part-time Adjunct Instructor at Young Harris College and then went on to work at Murphy Medical Center as a Clinical Dietitian. Now working for MountainWise, he enjoys the opportunity to connect and collaborate with various healthcare professionals to ensure that the people in our community are empowered to lead strong and healthy lives. She studied at the University of North Carolina at Asheville where she received her Bachelor\u2019s in Health and Wellness. She went on to receive a Master\u2019s in Public Health from East Tennessee State University. He received his Bachelor\u2019s of Science degree in Health Science Education with a specialization in Community Health Education from the University of Florida.
